Overview

APHA builds a collective voice for public health, working to ensure access to health care, protect funding for core public health services and eliminate health disparities, among a myriad of other issues.

For more than 130 years the American Public Health Association has led efforts to improve the public's health through advocating for resources to promote a healthy society. In this era of unprecedented public health challenges, APHA is working to ensure the needs of public health are met.  APHA members work on the front lines protecting public health in communities across the country. They understand the obstacles to and benefits of public health programs on the ground. Working with members and the Association’s Affiliates, APHA brings that expertise to decision-makers who can make a difference.

Through its advocacy efforts, APHA influences policies and sets priorities on a broad set of issues, including pandemic flu preparedness, children's health, access to care, environmental health, managed care, public health infrastructure, disease control, health disparities, bioterrorism, international health and tobacco control. APHA also advocates for state and federal funding for health and professional education programs in public health.
