Policy Gaps for 2011

This list was prepared by APHA staff and points to some suggested areas where APHA could use additonal policies. While it is not required for members to choose from this list, it may be helpful to consider.

Suggestions of APHA policy gaps for 2011 include:

  • Economic development and human health and welfare/Social Determinants of Health
  • The need to build capacity and strengthen the public health workforce
  • Use of performance measures in public health research and practice
  • Financing options for increasing public health funding
  • HIV/AIDS – specifically domestic issues
  • Public health and mental health services
  • Clean Air Act/ EPA
  • Impact of energy use
  • Quality improvement in public health
  • Integration of public health in private medical care (ie.- reimbursement, surveillance.)
  • Gerontological Health/Active Aging
  • School-Based Health Centers
  • Paid sick leave/workforce issues
