The APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition is the oldest and largest gathering of public health professionals in the world, attracting more than 13,000 national and international physicians, administrators, nurses, educators, researchers, epidemiologists, and related health specialists. APHA’s meeting program addresses current and emerging health science, policy, and practice issues in an effort to prevent disease and promote health.

Welcome to Washington, DC - highlights and useful information links

The Washington Convention Center (WCC) will house the Public Health Expo, Registration, the Opening General Sessions, Poster Sessions as well as hundreds of scientific sessions, social hours and business meetings. Scientific sessions, meetings and social events will also take place at three meeting hotels. The Guide to the Location of Sections, SPIGs and Caucuses provides a snapshot of where sessions for each subgroup will take place. Check the Final Program to determine the location of specific events.

2007 Annual Meeting Theme: Politics, Policy and Public Health
This years theme will explore the critical interactions between the political process and public health policy process, as tools to ensure the public’s health.

Annual Meeting Program:

  • Opening General Session - will be held in the new Washington Convention Center, Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm.
  • Closing General Session - will be held in the new Washington Convention Center, Wednesday, November 7, 2007 from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm.
  • Scientific Sessions - The 2007 Annual Meeting will unite the public health community and afford professionals and practitioners the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and exchange information on best practices, latest research and new trends in public health. Registrants can take advantage of educational programs to meet their needs for quality continuing education in a diversity of topics that ultimately assist them in their work toward improving the public’s health.

    The Annual Meeting consists of more than 900 scientific sessions, roundtables, poster sessions, institutes and panel discussions at which over 4,000 scientific papers will be presented. Specific program presenter information is available in a searchable database with a personal scheduling application linked to the online program.
  •  Online Session Presentation Recordings - APHA has expanded the educational experience for both presenters and attendees at the APHA Annual Meeting by providing web-based technology that enables voice and PowerPoint presentations to be recorded and uploaded to the APHA web-site following the meeting. To receive full access to these recordings, register on the annual Meeting Registration form.
  • Special Sessions - Cutting edge educational programming presented by prominent Public Health experts will be featured. Special Sessions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, (November 6 & 7) from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.

APHA Public Health Expo 
More than 675 booths of information, state-of-the-art products and services geared towards public health professionals await you at the APHA Public Health Expo. The expo opens on Sunday, November 4th at 2:00 pm immediately following the Opening General Session.

  • Everything APHA - Everything APHA, located in the center of the Public Health Expo, is your complete source for APHA information, publications, merchandise and public health career opportunities. It is the place to learn about APHA membership benefits, and interact with APHA staff.
  • Public Health CareerMart - Let APHA Public Health CareerMart www.apha.org/career/host.htm host your Career Day at the Annual Meeting. This is the perfect opportunity for employers and job seekers to meet face-to-face. Prior to the Annual Meeting, job seekers and employers may submit their resumes and job announcements online at www.apha.org/career. Interview booths can be reserved in advance as well as on site at the Public Health CareerMart in the exhibit hall during the Hall hours.   • i-Communicate - Networking at APHA is now even easier! APHA’s two electronic information centers, enable registered attendees to access their e-mails, search the Online Program and Virtual Expo, etc.
  • Virtual Expo - View the 2006 Exhibitors. The Virtual Expo is an online interface which gives registrants the ability to browse the Public Health Expo floor plan, search for exhibitors by company name, product/service category and keyword. Specific exhibitor information can be added to their personal itinerary and accessed from any computer with an internet connection.
  • New Connections Reception - Start out the meeting on the right foot. APHA invites all Annual Meeting registrants to attend the New Connections Reception on Sunday, November 4, from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the Public Health Expo at the Washington Convention Center. Enjoy good food with old friends, make new ones, mingle with the candidates for APHA offices, learn more about APHA Section, SPIG and Caucus activities, network with your colleagues and explore the exhibits.

APHA Celebration - This year’s Celebration, the premier social event of the APHA Annual Meeting, will be held on Tuesday, November 6, from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. You won’t want to miss this wonderful evening of great food and entertainment.

Public Health Awards Reception and Ceremony - On Sunday, November 4, join your colleagues at the Public Health Awards Ceremony to recognize the individuals who will be receiving APHA’s most distinguished awards. Enjoy this opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of these exceptional awardees. The award reception and ceremony will take place at the Washington Convention Center beginning at 6:30 pm. Guests will be welcomed with passed hors d’oeuvres and beverages prior to the ceremony.

Session Presenter Information - The call for abstracts will open on December 18, 2006. The deadline for submissions is February 5-9, 2007. Anyone who submits an abstract will be notified via e-mail on June 1, 2007 of the status of their abstract. Speaker confirmation letters will be mailed to all accepted session presenters reconfirming the details of their presentation date, time and location by the end of July 2007. If your contact information changes, please be sure to update your information by using the presenter update form. You will need your abstract ID and password.
