International Health Section

One of the larger member sections in the organization, the International Health Section (IH) currently has over 1,600 members. IH members are professionals who are engaged in international health either through avocations or vocations and they comprise a pool of expertise in the field that covers a full range of international health activities.

The International Health Section is governed by an elected leadership that directs the Section’s involvement in international health issues through APHA activities including: development of APHA’s Annual Meeting program; drafting relevant resolutions for support by APHA; participation on various APHA Boards and Councils; and other related activities. Two resolutions recently drafted by IH Section members and currently engaged in the APHA resolution review process are, “ Ethical Restrictions on International Recruitment of Health Professionals to the U.S.A” and “ Resolution on Expenditure Ceilings and the Millennium Development Goals.” Furthermore, the IH Section is currently leading APHA’s efforts in developing a position for the association on global trade and public health.
